60 Years of Excellence

BROWN COLLEGE IS LEADER AMONG CAREER COLLEGES

Twin Cities Institution Celebrates 60th Anniversary
MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MINN. (July 2006) - Having trained thousands of men and women in an array of fields, Brown College is commemorating its 60th anniversary with a weeklong celebration that is planned for the week of Sept. 10, culminating with an all-campus event on Saturday, Sept. 16. Alumni, students and friends of Brown are encouraged to attend the event and to submit memories on www.browncollege.edu.

Brown College continues to train students in broadcasting, technology, design, among other career programs, and the school's alumni are working in all 50 states and dozens of countries.

"Brown has a rich history and is one of the most established and respected career colleges in the Twin Cities," said Ron Andersen, president of Brown College. "Throughout our 60 years, we've evolved into a comprehensive college, adding a number of programs in today's top fields and keeping Brown at the
forefront of career education."

Founded in 1946 as a radio broadcasting school by Richard and Helen Brown, it began as The American Institute of the Air. In 1954 it became Brown Institute and remained so until 2001 when the name Brown College was adopted, reflecting the breadth and growth of the school's program base.

Still renowned for its Radio Broadcasting and Television Production programs, Brown alumni permeate the nation's broadcasting community. High-profile media personalities such as John Hines of KEEY-FM, the 2005 CMA's major market station of the year, and well-known public figures like Sen. Chuck Hagel
graduated with a broadcast degree from Brown and continue to be involved with the college. Additionally, many of those behind the broadcast scenes are Brown graduates and help bring radio and television programming to the nation's public.

Throughout the school's 60-year history a number of programs were added to the curriculum. Today Brown College programs include:

School of Broadcasting

  • Communication Studies
  • Television Production
  • Radio Broadcasting

School of Technology

As part of the 60th Anniversary, Brown College is initiating efforts to reconnect with alumni in the Twin Cities and across the globe to include them in the celebration. Brown College/Institute alumni are
encouraged to visit www.browncollege.edu, or send an email to: alumni@browncollege.edu with current contact and career information, and, if they wish, a brief statement of their memories of Brown.
