Houston Native Eveline Martinez Secures Internship at Republican National Convention

58 Brown College students selected for coveted intern positions with top news outlets

Mendota Heights, MN (August 10, 2008) – Houston's native daughter, Eveline Martinez, was selected for a coveted spot as an intern for FOX News at the upcoming Republican National Convention in Saint Paul, Minnesota. An unprecedented number of students from Brown College's School of Broadcasting program were hand-selected for a once in a lifetime opportunity to work behind the scenes at the Republican National Convention. They secured internships with notable networks such as the BBC , FOX , and on the lighter side, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart . The 58 students will be working behind-the-scenes with seasoned producers, directors, and reporters. The students will be working for eight days straight, for long hours while getting a bird's eye view of the inner workings of the convention and unique perspective of the presumptive Republican nominee John McCain and his supporters. Martinez is a recent graduate of the Business Communications program from Brown College in Minnesota.

The students selected are from a range a programs at Brown College including television production, radio broadcasting, and business management. Their assignments will range from production assistance to monitoring web streaming. This experience will help develop them into strong individuals ready to be valuable professionals in the video industry. “This is quite a unique opportunity for our students that perfectly aligns the practical, hands-on experience the students receive in the classroom with the realism of fieldwork” says Lisa Wright, School of Broadcasting Department Chair. Most of the student interns are nearing the end of the 18-month program. Included in the list of interns are 25 graduates. “I am proud that our students were approached to be a part of the political landscape and to be part of history,” said Charles Wilkerson, Internship coordinator, “this will an experience many students, and some professionals, only dream about.”
